Q: Is there an age limit for who can raft?
A: There is no age limit here at Truckee River Raft Co. We leave the decision of how young rafters can be up to you. We service young children and babies all the time. The caveat being that if you have an infant that you would like to take on the trip we require that you have at least two adults to paddle and another to hold the infant throughout the trip.
Q: Do you have life jackets for my infant?
A: We provide life jackets for children 2 years and older, but families with children younger than that must provide life jackets for them.
Q: Can I bring alcohol on the river?
A: Yes, you can bring alcohol. The only time you cannot is during the Fourth of July weekend, which is due to a state law. You can also bring a cooler, but it must be reasonably sized, for example, one man should be able to carry it comfortably. There is no glass or Styrofoam allowed on our river for safety and environmental reasons.
Q: Can my kids go without me?
A: Kids can go without adults if they are 15 or older, as long as a parent comes and sign the release form at the time of the trip.
Q: Do I have to wear a life jacket?
A: Children 12 and younger must wear their life jackets throughout the trip. Rafters older than that just have to keep the provided jacket in the raft.
Q: Can I go rafting alone?
A: No, we require that each raft have at least two capable paddlers to maintain control.
Q: What should I wear on the trip?
A: Swimwear is generally the status quo, but you may wear whatever you like. Be aware that you can and most likely will get wet. Footwear is required, flip-flops are fine.
Q: What should I NOT bring on the raft?
A: You shouldn't bring anything on the trip that you don't want to get wet or lose. While you're not likely to get completely soaked, you don't want to take any chances with things. Don't bring your car keys, cameras that aren't waterproof, and wedding rings. These things tend to get lost in the river a lot. Putting a pair of Chums on your sunglasses is a good idea too.
Q: Can we bring fishing poles?
A: No fishing is allowed off the rafts as there are many others enjoying the river as well and fishing hooks and lines are a danger to other river-goers and the boats.
Q: Are there restrooms along the way?
A: There are several port-a-potties along way for your convenience.
Q: How cold is the water?
A: Generally 65-70 degrees.
Q: Do you allow dogs on the rafts?
A: Yes! We love dogs and allow them on the trip. If you have more than two or very large breed dogs call us (530-583-0123) for more information. Please be aware that the River Ranch Lodge does not allow dogs on its patio. If you plan on enjoying the facilities at River Ranch, please leave your dogs at home.
Q: How long is the trip?
A: 5 miles which usually takes 2-3 hours depending on if you stop to picnic or swim in the various swimming holes.
Q: How safe is it?
A: Very, it is a mild float, which is classified as class one. There are five little rapids along the way, the most challenging being the end stretch.
Q: Do you sell supplies such as food, drinks, or clothing?
A: Yes, in our convenience store.
Q: Do we have to share our raft with people we don't know?
A: No, the only people on your raft are the ones in your party.
Q: Are the reservations pre-paid?
A: Yes, that way you are guaranteed a spot for rafting, although if there are a huge number of people rafting that day, your time may be pushed back. You can make a reservation up to 2 hours before the time you want to go rafting, although we encourage you to do it sooner.
Q: How far is the second parking lot from the launch site?
It is only 5 miles down river from the launch site right across from the River Ranch Restaurant and Lodge. There is a big blue arrow that says free raft parking with our orange paddles. This is where the raft trip ends and our shuttle will take you to the start.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: You must cancel 24 hours in advance of your trip for a full refund. You can always reschedule.
Q: Can I decide how many rafts we get?
A: No, we have many different raft sizes and the Launchmaster will determine what rafts you get according to your group size, the water levels and raft availability.
Q: Can I combine both the Early or Late Bird Specials with the reservation discount?
A: No, it is one or the other.
Q: Can I add or subtract people to a reservation I've already made?
A: Yes you can, to do this please call our reservationists at 530-583-0123.
